What today means

May 24, 2009

I’ve always loved Memorial Day, and for a lot of reasons.

It’s a day off for me. Firing up the grill and eating too much. Spending time with family and friends. Relaxing. Officially saying goodbye to the fickleness of spring and hello to summer’s reliable warmth.

But Memorial Day is also more. Much more. I’ve always realized that. But this past Saturday, I knew it.

I’m posting at Katdish’s blog today. I invite you there so you can meet my friend Kirk, who has changed quite a bit over the past four years. Time can do that. So can war.

Have a blessed day, everyone. And don’t forget to pause in this peaceful day to remember those
who secured that peace for us.

Amen to that Billy! Memorial Day is a most honorable day to recognize and be thankful to others who have done something I just would never be able to imagine; putting their lives on the line for all of us Americans. Such a very deserved day of greatest recognition!

Headin’ over to Katdish’s site now….

Was selfishly hoping for TWO Billy blogs today – but I can live with the wonderful, thoughtprovoking one from Kat’s place. Will not forget.

Just came back. Great post. My husband is a Vietnam Vet and USMA graduate. He doesn’t talk much about those days, but when he does I gain a new level of respect for our soldiers.

    Thanks for sharing.

Have a great, fun day! But today is about remembering those who lost their lives and the ones who are still currently risking their lives for the freedom we enjoy. May we remember them everyday, not only today. God bless and gotta’ go over Katdish’.

Wow! What a moving tribute to your friend Billy!

Too often we don’t see ‘that’ side of war, we only see the side the media shows us.

If we don’t believe that, ever watch our local news. If we based our view of the world on what the news shows us each night, most of us would never leave our homes. It is filled only with the stuff that drives people to watch, murders, rapes, robberies, you name it.

Buried at the very end is a little blurb about something good, but only a little something.

Shouldn’t the news and media do more than just deal with the evils of the world and show more of the good? I guess that stuff doesn’t sell and keep you awake at night.

    Love and Hugs ~ Kat
