Fixing what’s broken
August 23, 2009
Is it me, or do kids seem to have a lot more stuff now than they used to? Take a walk through my son’s bedroom, and you will see only a slightly scaled down version of your local Toys R Us. Matchbox cars? He’s got ‘em. Toys guns? Yep. Legos, action figures, costumes, books, and blocks, too.
In keeping with the technological advances of our times, most of these toys are intricate designs of electronic know-how built to provide about three weeks of quality entertainment before self-destructing, at which point you have two choices: try to fix it, or go buy a replacement.
Me, I try to fix it.
And I do a good job for the most part. I know how to use screwdrivers and pliers and hammers (that one only as a last resort, of course).
But it seems that the more value my son places on a certain toy, the more impatient he is to get it fixed. I found this out the other day when his favorite plaything suddenly quit working. Fixing it was easy. The lesson I learned, though? Not so much.
To hear all about it, stop over at Katdish’s blog. And remember, God can fix anything as long as you give Him enough time to do it…

Going there now.
Right on. On my way
Just read your post at Katdish…I love the pictures your stories paint…this was a wonderful post.
Read it and came back…
Great example of how my relationship with the Lord can often be…
Loved it!
This is one of my favorites, Billy. I tend to be very patient.
Not.
What a beautiful portrayal of our relationship with the Father….I know I want HIM to fix things "now" but I have learned that HIS timing is always perfect, no matter what!
Thanks for this wonderful post!
"And remember, God can fix anything as long as you give Him enough time to do it…"
ack! I am SO struggling with patience as you know…..thank you!
How very true! We forget that everything happens in His perfect time, NOT OURS…Blessings to you.
Billy,
Another masterpiece by the inspired writer/father. I love how you compare your child's toy to the problems we, as adults, face with dealing with God.
This is all too true and something I need to remember when I want to take my problem back from God.
He can fix anything, if we just give Him the time!
Love and Hugs ~ Kat
Another great post! I have the patience of a flea….
:0)
Billy you really encourage me. Where you say "it seems the more value my son places on a certain toy, the more impatient he is to get it fixed", it really spoke to me and made me realize why it is I am so impatient especially about things working out that are of such tremendous value to me. And then you say what I am currently finding so hard to do " God can fix anything as long as you give Him enough time to do it… I really need patience and to Trust. Thanks for that VERY important reminder. I just do not know when I will get it through my head, my heart and my mind!
Billy, saw your interview (or essay) on how you got your agent over on the guide to literary agent's site. That was terrific and inspirational. Our God is so awesome.
