What I learned in church yesterday
August 16, 2009
You learn a lot of things in church. Not a very profound statement, I know. But it’s true, and all truth is profound in its own way.
My church is most likely much like your own, filled with loving people who show up each Sunday with the desire to worship God, and activity that serves to both put one week behind you and give you the strength to endure the one ahead.
Our pastor is brilliant, my Sunday School teacher is a genius, and our praise team is absolutely inspiring.
But yesterday none of them taught me as much as the people who occupied the three rows in front of me.
As for who they were and what they did that was so impressive, you’ll have to stop by Katdish’s blog today. And while you’re reading, keep in mind that while we’re all suffering from our own limitations, that doesn’t mean we can’t keep on singing anyway…

Ha! I almost used that same picture! Great minds…
Going over there now.
Off I go! Can't wait!
be right there!
Billy – that was beautiful!
I am so touched in a deep way by what happens when I was the interpreters for the deaf.
I feel more from watching them then I often do the actual song being sung. The depth of His love being poured out through their hands, face and body. Is untouchable!
Oh how sweet our Father's love for us – to allow us into His heart where no boundaries of hearing exist. It is right to the HEART!
Where everything that matters comes from!
Beautiful! Simply beautiful!
I praise YOU GOD!
Blessings and love,
Jill
Intrigues…here I go!
That was a great story as always Billy.
I certainly would hate to miss the sound of birds chirping and the roar of the ocean — not to mention the sound of my daughter's voice. But you're right — there are some things I wouldn't miss.
I came over here from Kats yesterday and already see why she wanted to interview you!
Going to read the other blog now! Thanks
Amen…we MUST keep singing!
Blessings, andrea

on my way:)
That was a great story…about a powerful worship, not with words but from the heart. And that's what God looks at…The song "Heart of Worship" comes to mind right now.
The Lord did really show you an awesome thing to be learned that day…And I'm glad you always share those things with us. God bless.
I read her post and came back.

Billy,
It is so nice that the churches have started to recognize the needs of everyone including those that can't hear like we do, but can hear none the less.
We too, have a deaf ministry at our church which occupies 1/3rd of our church and is always full every service.
Well said that one day, for them they will hear like we do, and for now, we sometimes have those moments where we are a little hard of hearing the things we should be paying attention to.
Great post once again.
Love and Hugs ~ Kat
Went there and came back after reading it to tell you how good it was!
Love the picture. Couldn't figure out what it was at first but as I was getting off the blog it hit me and I went back in…aha! Thank you for sharing your moments of truth this Sunday.
Completely agree too with what Kat of HearttoHeart said about you on her blog.
Nice.
Typical Billy Coffey material.
God is rockin' in you, in case I haven't told you lately.
It fascinates me that Beehtoven continued to compose after he became deaf. He even cut the legs off his piano and laid next to it on the floor so he could feel the music.
And when I watch praise music being signed, the visuals move me so deeply I usually can't sing. I only have to see "Jesus" or "Christ" signed with nails in the palms to lose it.
How I love this post, Billy! Thanks for sharing your precious daughter with us.
