Snow Day!

December 22, 2009

I’ll be back tomorrow to post about my penchant (or lack thereof) for wrapping gifts. But for today, I want to tell you about another sort of gift. An unexpected one.

Yesterday I received an early Christmas present from my publisher–the cover art for Snow Day. The fact it was sent by the folks at FaithWords on a day when the weather had given me a day off from work was not coincidental. Which goes to show just how cool they are.

So, whatcha think?

Forgive me for the gush of emotion here … but … I’m crying.

I can’t help it. Can’t wait to read those warm words bound between snow-decorated pages.

    God bless you, my friend.

  2. Bridget on December 22nd, 2009 1:07 am

I love it~ I’m feeling so much joy for you, Billy. Merry Christmas!

  3. Dee Yoder on December 22nd, 2009 1:46 am

The cover absolutely makes me want to pick up your book, buy it, and rush home to read it. It’s very evocative of simpler days and the promise of a good read.

  4. Elaina Avalos on December 22nd, 2009 2:27 am

    I love the cover!!

  5. Beth E. on December 22nd, 2009 6:06 am

I love the cover! I’m excited about your book, and can hardly wait until it’s available.

We hardly had snow during the Blizzard of 2009. What we did have, though, sure caused major problems. Towns outside of ours had much more snow than we had, and their situation is even worse. Thousands in our county are still without electricity.

I much prefer snowy scenes as depicted on your book cover. Just looking at it makes me smile.

Merry Christmas to you, Billy. May you and your family have a wonderful Christmas, and a blessed New Year.

  6. Glynn on December 22nd, 2009 7:17 am

Looks great, Billy. Reminds me of one of those paintings by Brueghel the Elder (or is it the Younger?).

  7. Wendy on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 am

My daughter and I made snow angels just two days ago. This is a book, even if I’d never heard of the author or read an excerpt, I’d pick up off the shelf based on that picture alone.

    Very cool!

  8. Corinne on December 22nd, 2009 7:44 am

    LOVE it! Very nice Billy!

  9. Angela on December 22nd, 2009 7:56 am

Love it! I want to step into the picture and join in the fun.

  10. Matt @ The Church of No People on December 22nd, 2009 8:12 am

That, my friend, is a pretty sweet book cover. In fact, dare I say, it could bring the beat down on many weaker book covers who might be unfortunate enough to be shelved next to it.

  11. Lynn Rush on December 22nd, 2009 8:22 am

Fantastic, Billy. How exciting. What a great Christmas present.

    Merry Christmas.

  12. Maureen on December 22nd, 2009 8:24 am

It’s just right! Especially with those snow angels!

Aren’t you just tickled to see your name in print like that?

  13. Sarah Salter on December 22nd, 2009 8:31 am

It’s AWESOME! I can’t wait to see it live and in person! What a GREAT Christmas gift for you and your family! And God even arranged for a snow day to unveil it. How providential was that?!

  14. Candy on December 22nd, 2009 8:47 am

I think I’m a little girl again. Now that’s one powerful cover! I hope you’ll save one for me!

Snow Angels – children – it doesn’t get better than that.

That is GORGEOUS, Billy! You must be so excited. I know I am! When is your release date? Will it be out for next fall/Christmas? That would be perfect.

  25. rcubes on December 22nd, 2009 9:45 am

I’m glad that your hard work [is it? because writing seems so easy for you :) ]….is coming into fruition. Beautiful brother Billy and I just prayed for the Lord to bless you and many will pick up a copy and be encouraged by you. Seeing those kids having a blast with snow, just reminded me of how God wants us to be like them, childlike in faith and remaining joyful….because He has set us free…our sins as white as snow! Merry Christmas to you and God bless and keep you always.

  26. Robin Arnold on December 22nd, 2009 9:58 am

I think it’s a beautiful cover. I am especially pleased and proud to see your name all centered right there in the middle. Represent!

  27. Chris Godfredsen on December 22nd, 2009 10:44 am

The cover looks awesome, but it is what will lie within those pages that has me excited.

Be blessed this Christmas, my brother from the other side of the country!

  28. Beck Ramsey on December 22nd, 2009 10:50 am

I think it looks great, Billy! I can’t wait to buy it. That cover would catch my eye in a store for sure. Congrats!

  32. Steph on December 22nd, 2009 11:44 am

I LOVE it! Reminds me of a painting. Like the folk art from 19th century New England? I can’t remember the artist. But just like some have commented, I’d pick it up for the cover alone. Even if I didn’t know and love the author. ;)

    So happy for you!

  33. Joanne Sher on December 22nd, 2009 12:37 pm

LOVE it. SO much. And yeah – I’d pick it up just from the cover.

  34. Marla Taviano on December 22nd, 2009 12:58 pm

Oh my word. That’s one of the most amazing covers I’ve ever seen in my life. Wowzers.

That’s awesome! I think I congratulated you on Twitter, but here it is in comment form! It looks awesome, and I wish you the best of luck. You’ve earned it.

  37. Peg on December 22nd, 2009 1:28 pm

Boy, does that bring back memories! Talk about “days of yore” – been a very long time since I made a snow angel or flew down a hill on a sled. Great cover, Billy.

  38. A Simple Country Girl on December 22nd, 2009 2:20 pm

Perhaps it’s not the cover in and of itself that draws me to the book, but the ever-growing knowledge of its author. I reckon you are one of those kids flapping away in the snow…

    Blessings.

  39. Katdish on December 22nd, 2009 2:29 pm

Okay, thanks Peter. Now you can see the cover better. Kewl.

It is pretty cool seeing your name in print like that, huh? Awesome.

Just seeing your name on that cover……Hmmmh! I love the blue on it too. And that your name is precisely placed on that silver star! Congratulations!

It puts me in mind of the MBC hill…isn’t it fun how everyone comes out to sled and play together in the snow? I can’t wait to have that book in my hands…waiting on pins and needles over here! (Any hint of when we might be able to get it, or preorder, or something?)
