Billy, I love this post...you've perfectly captured the sad situation of so many married people. It's no secret that young women and men have a hard time choosing spouses for the right reasons. We buy into myths like: "being poor but happy is better" or "being rich will give you a better chance at happiness," instead of understanding how to evaluate good character and avoid falling into the chemically-induced blindness known as limerence. Some of the best marriages I know are the second marriages of women whose first husbands cheated on them. On their second tries, those women knew what to look for, and they were very, very careful not to be fooled again.

Fantastic photo!

Another great post, Billy. Your writing is like music to me! And that means a ton, cuz I LOVE music.

You're right, LOVE finds you. I never even wanted to get married (long story behind why)--but then my sweet hubby, Charlie, found me way back in undergrad.

We're on our 14th year of marriage now, and I could NOT imagine life without him.

Woo-Hoo!

I completely love and agree with your first paragraph here. it captures the essence of love.

A very real story and you saw the experiences for what they were. Your deductions are right on.

I agree very much that spiritual affinity is important but I think Kahlil should not dismiss the other part too, that too plays a part. But come to think of it I think he was not really dismissing that but emphasizing the other as crucial.

I also get what you mean by love choosing you. I agree. Once it has, then you make the decision to be faithful and all that other important stuff.

Thank you for this post, though sad, but you brought out the lessons for us to learn from it. I thank God for the gift He has given you.

i kind of agree with you. my hubby didn't fit my "dream" of what I wanted, but turned out God knew a whole lot better than I did, what it was I needed.

Love to read you blog and the magic spell you put on words.

Billy

It's sad when you think you have found that person...and they don't see it.
I'm a 'in it for the long haul' kind of guy, but that kind of forever committment seems to be in short demand these days.

Blessings to you this week
